for patent infringement and unfair competition for selling basically the same jack at less than 1/3rd the price. They’re demanding that HF pull them from their shelves. So obviously I had to pick one up before that happens. Just a heads-up for Opponauts who are in need of a really good floor jack at a ridiculously low price.
BTW, this jack has zerk grease fittings, is fully rebuildable with parts schematic included, and is very easy to modulate lowering the car. No twitchy “all or nothing” pressure release.
EDIT: I forgot to add, unlike the cheaper HF jacks (which are still an amazing bargain), this one uses a spring detent to secure both halves of the handle together, and another VERY beefy spring detent that holds the handle in place. Makes it very easy to take the handle off and break it down for storage.

specs say 3.75" minimum clearance, my measuring tape confirms. It lifts up to 23" which is pretty damn high!

I was wondering what was special about it when I was browsing around the other day. I ended up getting the 1.5 ton to try out. For $60 it was a no brainer compared the the $30 trolly jack I was going to buy. Here is a picture of the Daytona jack next to the steel ones!

Oh the Daytona jack is steel as well, and has a lot more of it. Thing weighs over 100lbs.

I’m weary of hardbor freight jacks. I had the regular 2-ton buckle on me while i was jacking up a car. I use the low-profile 2-ton now, but where you screw the handle clockwise you can tell that it’s stripped out. I can still tighten it, but not too tight or else it’ll just twist around the square-shaped thingy that inserts into the handle. I’m a little sketched out by this one too, now.
Screw harbor freight, everything I have ever bought from there either broke or didn’t work. Except jack stands, but it’s hard to screw up a couple chunks of metal.
I haven’t tried out the angle grinder I bought from them yet, so there may be redemption on the horizon...

Also, the Daytona jack will probably not fit under some lower cars.

I dont really get why they introduced this model. In the advertising and description it mentions lasting 10x longer. How would anyone even know that?!
I would just get a low pro 3 ton on sale for like $79.99 that should last years and years.

I have a regular HF jack which I got for $70. it works great. It has a spring detent for the halves of the handle, and lowering the car slowly isn’t a problem, either (just turn the handle *slightly* to the left).
Is Snap-On’s made in China? The infringement is the cost of cheap Chinese labor. They buy or steal trade secrets and reverse engineer. This is also why HF’s quality has been getting better.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeek! The silver jacks weigh around 70-75 lb, and the alum jacks weigh even less

Yeah, currently got the 3 ton low profile. Works great with the FR-S and Miata , but it creaks and groans when I lift the E39 and I assume it will do the same with the Jag. It would be nice to have something a little beefier that could handle everything.

HF has a lot of real junk, but they also carry many amazing tools that can’t be had anywhere else for close to HF’s price. I’ve been using a 3-ton floor jack I got from them back in ‘04 with zero issues, I got the Daytona jack because I find myself in need or want of a second floor jack during some jobs.
As for your old 2-ton jack buckling, did the jack itself bend, or did it just not hold pressure and sink down with weight? If it’s the latter, you’re talking about a 2-cent O-ring failure, not the entire jack.

I was looking at these just today. They even had a little thing comparing it to Snap On and Matco ones. Theirs had slightly different specs so I bet they’ll get away with it like always.

Back breaking to lift, but once it’s on a smooth surface, it rolls really nicely. Shouldn’t need to deadlift it often unless you’re moving it up and down stairs.

I was wondering exactly what was patented about it, it just looks like an oddly-shaped floor jack. the linked article says Snap-On has a design patent on it, which covers its basic look and shape.
most patents covering a new invention are utility patents.

Out of curiosity, is it made in the same factory? That’s the case with a ton of cheap things in general. I have an audio cable tester that’s identical to about a dozen other cheap audio cable testers from Behringer to Nady because they’re all made by the same Chinese company and just put a different sticker on it. I just found the cheapest one for like $10.
